LINARO - APPROVED SIRE WITH THE AHS AND GERMAN VERBAND
Nearly sixty colts by Landgraf I have been licensed for the Holsteiner stud book, like the champion of 1991, Linaro pictured here. Linaro also excelled in the jumper arena. He is well known for his rideability and calm temperament. In his first year of breeding, Linaro produced more Premium foals in Holstein that any other stallion. Linaro is approved by the Hanoverian and Oldenberg Verbands.
LORD & LANDGRAF I - TWIN PILLARS OF THE HOLSTEINER
Lord, a Holsteiner stallion, is one of the most famous sons of the foundation sire Ladykiller xx. Lord was described as "a spectacular mover, extraordinary jumping talent," during his stallion testing. Lord was one of the early stallions to prove successful in jumping competition.

Lord had 9 approved sons and 143 approved daughters, all endowed with incredible jumping ability. Lord had many famous jumping offspring including Livius who competed in the 1984 Olympics. In all, Lord sired more than 60 stallions, and his progeny won more than Euro 3,000.000.

Landgraf I was licensed in 1968 and finished in 5th place with the comments 'a lot of presence, good gaits with excellent propulsion, and good confromation.” Jumping is the field where he excelled as a sire. The list of his showjumping offspring is endless. A few names for example: Freestyle (formerly Lalique) won Aachen Grand Prix, Libero won the Dutch National title five times (!) and also the 1994 Volvo World Cup. The licenced stallion, Lacros, is another along with top performers: Lucky Luke, Lanciano, Landlord, Lausbub and Taggi. He is also well noted for passing on a superior temperament and movement.

Nearly sixty colts by Landgraf I have been licenced for the Holsteiner stud book. 340 broodmares by Landgraf I are registered in the Holsteiner stud book, 260 of these are in the Head Stud Book, 70 have been awarded the State Premium, and a considerable number have been champion mares at shows. Landgraf I was a legend already during his life time. His genes are securely ancored in the breed of the modern sporthorse.
LADYKILLER xx - GREAT GRANDSIRE OF LIANDRA
When the German Warmblood breeders of the 60s and 70s turned to the Thoroughbred for refinement and athleticism, there were a number of important stallions that played a key role in the shaping the modern sport horse – none was more significant than the English born Ladykiller xx. He sired 35 stallion sons including the two prominent Holsteiner stallions: Landgraf and Lord as well as 195 approved daughters. His own pedigree was stong in jumping bloodlines.

In his Stallion Book of the Holsteiner Warmblood Breed, Dr Dietrich Rossow had this to say about Ladykiller and his influence: "He was a clearly masculine type with a beautiful head, really heavy neck, good shoulder, rather flat loin, and a nicely coupled, heavily muscled croup. He had first rate legs and feet for a Thoroughbred and was an elastic mover. He was everything a state breeding program could wish for.”
WHY USE THE THOROUGHBRED IN A WARMBLOOD BREED?
"Reasons and Effects of Using Thoroughbreds in a Warmblood Breed to Improve Dressage and Jumping Marelines"
Dr. Jochen Wilkens, VhW Manager and Breeding Director - “The American Hanoverian” Winter 2005/2006.

How can we use Thoroughbreds to improve the warmblood breed? We do this by the careful selection of Thoroughbred Stallions to be used. The three reasons for using Thoroughbreds in a warmblood breed to improve dressage and jumping marelines are: 1.) the tendancy for warmbloods to become coarser and heavier over the generations, 2.) 80-90 percent of all riders are female, 3.) the need for charming, mobile and elegant horses which are long legged but not too heavy.

Refinement means improvement of energy, stamina and the ability to perform and stay sound. The Thoroughbred body leads to the refinement of the body and limbs, frequently with a good topline, (shoulders, withers, and croup.).

Says Wilkens, “We must select only suitable stallions and we must learn that breeding means thinking in generations. On the mother’s side we like to see Thoroughbred blood in the first to third generations.”

Noted Thoroughbred sires important to the Hanoverian development which are found in the pedigrees of Bridlewood Farm’s horses include: Augustinus xx (Fabuleux),Black Sky xx (Bordeaux, Wolkenglanz), Bleep xx (Bordeaux, Donnerkeil), Cardinal xx (Guarantor), Ladykiller xx (Liandra), Lauries Crusador xx (SPS Laureen), Marcio xx (Werther's Brigitta) and Waidmannsdank xx (Werther's Brigitta).
CALYPSO II - DAM GREAT GRANDSIRE OF LIANDRA
The Calypso brothers have made breeding histoty in Holstein. Calypso II bests exherts himself through his sons Coriolan, Champ of Class, and of course, Contender. He was shown successfully in show jumping under Dr. Michael Ruping. Calypso II is accredited for producing jumping horses of insurmountable scope and ability. He produced Contender, whom was the undisputed winner of the 1987 Adelheidsdorf stallion performance test and the sire of many approved stallions within the Hanoverian and Holsteiner breeds.
